Addiction is a disease with far-reaching ramifications. Not only does it impact the individual and their loved ones, but drug and alcohol abuse in the workplace exacts a high toll on employers and co-workers. The majority of people who struggle with a substance use disorder maintain some form of employment.
Rhiannon Whalen-Harris, Community Relations & Prevention Director, One-Eighty, will present to the Orrville Area Safety Council, December 8, on the topic of Addiction Disease in the Workplace. The presentation will cover the following areas:
- What is addiction disease?
- What are the impacts on businesses?
- What should be in place to protect the workplace?
- How can the workplace support recovery?
In addition to the educational webinar, the Orrville Area Safety Council monthly meeting will include:
- Updates from the Ohio Bureau of Workers Compensation.
- Spotlight on an Ohio BWC program or service.
The Orrville Area Safety Council is presented in partnership with the Ohio Bureau of Workers Compensation and Orrville Area Chamber of Commerce.

Community Relations & Prevention Director of One Eighty
https://www.one-eighty.org/Rhiannon Whalen-Harris, M.Ed. works as the Director of Community Relations and Prevention with OneEighty. Rhiannon supervises a department with 11 individuals who work to provide community outreach regarding the services of OneEighty, as well as education to prevent substance use disorder, violence, and other behavioral health issues. She is certified in Youth and Adult Mental Health First Aid as well as Sexual Assault Advocacy, and she is a member of several state and local coalitions including the Partnership for a Drug Free Wayne County, the Ohio Men’s Action Network, and the Suicide Prevention Coalition of Wayne and Holmes Counties. Rhiannon holds a Master of Education in Educational Psychology from Kent State University, and a Bachelor of Science in Education as well as a Bachelor of Art in Psychology from Cleveland State University. She has been with OneEighty since March of 2012.
