First aid is emergency care provided for injury or sudden illness before emergency medical treatment is available. The first-aid provider in the workplace is someone who is trained in the delivery of initial medical emergency procedures, using a limited amount of equipment to perform a primary assessment and intervention while awaiting arrival of emergency medical service (EMS) personnel.

The Orrville Area Safety Council in partnership with the Orrville Area Chamber of Commerce will provide an introduction to some of the most common situations employees may encounter in the workplace. This interactive session will provide participants an opportunity to practice first-aid and first response techniques that could save the life of a co-worker in the critical moments prior to the arrival of medical personnel.

The meeting will follow the same schedule as usual with lunch at 11:30am followed by announcements and updates from the BWC. Then participants will be divided into four group and spend 10 minutes at each interactive learning station.

Stations will be coordinated by the following local experts

1. Stroke Awareness, Signs and Symptoms - Aultman Orrville Hospital
2. Sprains, strains and breaks - Aultman Orrville Sports and Wellness
3. Cardiac Arrest Awareness, Assistance - American Red Cross
4. Fire Extinguisher and burn assistance - Orrville Fire Department/Wayne County Regional Training Facility

This program is presented by Anthem Blue Cross/Blue Shield Group Health Insurance Chamber Saver Program. Information will also be available on Better You Better Ohio, the Ohio BWC's Employee Wellness Program
