Good news for small group health plans! Department of Health & Human Services Center and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services ​have announced the continuation of transition relief from a requirement of the Affordable Care Act for companies with less than 50 employees.


This transition relief applies to group health plans that existed and renewed between Jan. 1, 2014 and Oct. 1, 2014. The announcement delays the sunsetting of this relief and protects previously established health plans from being forced into Affordable Care Act compliant plans. Those plans generally cost more and offer less choice. The new extension allows health plans to continue through calendar year 2020.
